Bogor (ANTARA) -- Talented golfers were successfully produced by insurance and national reinsurance industry through annual golf tournament Persatuan Golf Asuransi Indonesia (PGAI) Matchplay 2020, even though the coronavirus period has not passed.

300 participants took part in competing for four highest positions in the Indonesia Re PGAI Matchplay 2020 which was held starting on March 5, 2020. It was originally scheduled to end on March 31, 2020, however due to the outbreak, it was postponed until November 12, 2020.

Arie Surya Nugraha, General Reinsurance CEM and Administration Division Head of Indonesia Re, stated that they never expected the golf competition to be halted due to the pandemic.

“Although there were months of gaps between rounds, the participants still kept up with their performance,” Arie stated during PGAI Matchplay 2020 awarding ceremony in Bogor last Thursday.

The Top 4 positions were awarded to:
1. Harmen Nazar - Asuransi Adira
2. Kemas A. Yani - PLN Insurance
3. Ferry Laksono - Garuda Re
4. Joshua Perangin - J.B. Boda Group

Marking its fifth year as the final year for Indonesia Re to be the sole exclusive sponsor for PGAI Matchplay tournament, Arie mentioned that he will continue to support PGAI programs in producing emerging talented golf players from the national insurance industry.
“There are always opportunities to re-collaborate, while we evaluate how to improve the benefit and quality of this event for the industry”, he added.

Herman Nazar, the first winner in PGAI Matchplay 2020 and returning winner of PGAI Matchplay 2018, admitted that the competition has been more competitive every year, as he only achieved fourth position last year.

“All players were more competitive, especially when there were a lot of postponements caused by the pandemic. But, I am so glad I can come back as the first winner”, he said.

PGAI Matchplay is one of the initiatives to develop conducive and sustainable insurance and national reinsurance industry through golf as a popular sport for insurers around the world.
